Cotton Candy Mixer

October 26, 2007 Carissa Crimson 1 comment

When I was a Fashion Angel, we called the mix ‘n’ match posts “Heavenly Hash” (catchy, no?) I couldn’t come up with anything equally cool for Carissa’s Closet so I gave up trying and just went with “Mixer”

CottonCandy MishMash

I finally found the time to head over to the Cotton Candy Mall and my curiosity sooned turned into a frenzied shopping spree as I ooooohed and ahhhhhed at all the pretties in every shop.

The outfit started with the colorful and cozy crocheted scarf from BettiePage Voyager of BP. I’ve been dressing very neutral or monocromatic lately so I really wanted to kick in some brightness. The Gillian striped socks from Corduroy were the perfect colors to pair with my scarf, and the Amelieish hair from Hiccup was another great find from Cotton Candy Mall.

So with neck, feet and head covered, I ransacked my inventory for some pieces to coordinate and cover my OTHER body parts. I picked up the Starley II Mini Sweater dress from Last Call a few days ago, and I found that the neutral color saved me from looking like I was in a Rainbow Brite costume, and although the dress came with a few belt options, I found that I really liked the look of a tinted version of the belt that came with the 80’s Child outfit from Veschi. Completing the look are Sleek Laceup Boots in Rose from Shiny Things and Grey Shimmer Tights from Last Call’s Jill ensemble.

Are you a Lookr?

October 25, 2007 Carissa Crimson 2 comments

Adam Soler dropped a landmark to his store Lookr on me a couple of days ago, and when I TPed over I was quite impressed with the small but quality inventory. The items are unisex and are Christian themed, which is something you don’t see often in SL.
Lookr 1
Helping me model is my hubby, Shifte, who surprised me by being a willing participant. You won’t find anything from the “dressy” or “formal” category at Lookr, but what you will find are comfy clothes with fantastic textures and unique details, as well as simple accessories. The gray “are you a lookr” t shirt I’m sporting in the above pic is actually a freebie. Notice the cute logo tag on the hem…I LOVE those special touches. We are both wearing the Jeans in Black that have that worn-in look of a favored pair that are mold to your body when you slip them on. Shifte is also seen here in the untucked version of the Creation Rose t-shirt. The seam alignment is PERFECT by the way.

The Creation Rose top also comes in an tucked version as shown above. On Shifte is the Matthew 5:11-12 hoodie sweatshirt (I went gaga over the prim hood complete with realistic flexi drawstrings) and the Moss Jeans also have great optional cargo pockets. The sapphire class ring is simple and understated (although it just happens to be MY birthstone…not his).

Lookr is definitely worth a peek.

Identity Theft

October 22, 2007 Carissa Crimson 9 comments

When I logged into SL tonight, I was made aware that Identity Theft isn’t just a topic gaining media coverage because of concerned consumer and financial agencies in “First Life”. The truth is, Identity Theft is equally creepy and scary in Second Life.

A couple of weeks ago, my sister Aradia passed me a notecard of a conversation between her and another SL resident that made her a bit uneasy. The other person claimed to be working on a project with Naughty and wanted to hire her as a model. Anyone that is familiar with the fashion world of SL knows that Amby and Lost don’t exactly collaborate with other designers actually seemed to be having issues lately with copycat skin designers. Knowing this, Ara was suspicious of the intent of the conversation and politely declined to send the designer any photos of herself.

Fast forward to today. Ara was notified of this particular Flickr profile. http://www.flickr.com/photos/15107745@N08/

On the profile you will find photos that are obviously Ara, and before her Mariya, with the flickr page owner claiming the photos are her, and Photo descriptions like “You may have seen these on Aradia Dielli’s blog and that is because she stole them from me because they were on my profile a while ago” and beneath a photo snapped of Mariya “Just a modeling picture someone took of me”

What’s funny is that if the photos this delusional girl used weren’t two of the more recognized faces in SL, the deception may have slipped by unnoticed. Think about it though, how creepy is it to think that someone who appears to need a bit of psychological counseling is stalking you while you shop, snapping photos of you, or stealing Flickr photos and claiming to be you? This needs to stop…

Now there is no way to know if the person claiming to represent Naughty and this photo thief are the same person, but i think it is worth putting a warning out there that while the vast majority of people you come across in SL are geniune, there is no rule that prevents the mentally unstable from accessing a computer and deceiving everyone they come in contact with.

One Happy CUSTOMER

October 19, 2007 Carissa Crimson 3 comments

Earlier today I was putting together an outfit with my high-waisted Ingrid pants from Last Call (thanks Claudine for reminding me how much I loved them), and I wanted to pair it with a turtleneck. “Turtleneck” in inventory search yielded a folder from Ingenue named Bossa Nova Baby. I didn’t remember what it was or when I bought it (happens ALOT) but when I click-click-wear put it on, the neck roll sculpted prim rezzed, but not the shirt. You think I woulda learned by now not to trust SL with my modesty and attempt to sneak an outfit change in public….

EEP!
Bossa Nova Baby Sweater Before

At first I thought SL was just up to it’s old “ha ha Failed to Rez” games. So I pulled out my own bag of tricks. I rebaked. I hit Appearance Mode. No dice. Hit Appearance Mode again to try tinting, and found the shirt’s texture completely transparent. An IM over to the offline designer, Betty Doyle of Ingenue, explaining my dilemna was answered within the hour. Betty explained that SL had caused some problems with the texture and that she had fixed the vendor. and then Voila! the new and improved (and decidedly WARMER) sweater was sent over to nestle snuggly in my inventory. Hurray!

So this post is to recognize all the amazing content creators who care about their customers, and to tell you that Betty ROCKS!! So go check out her stuffies, you won’t be disappointed.

An Introduction

October 10, 2007 Carissa Crimson 12 comments

Carissa Crimson here. Most of the Fashion Planet addicts will know me from the Fashion Heaven blog. Without stirring up too much drama, it’s only fair to say that I resigned from my position as the Associate Fashion Editor of the Metaverse Messenger due to a misunderstanding I had with the Editor in Chief regarding what I thought was uncensored freedom to blog whatever fashion relative subject I pleased on the Fashion Heaven blog. Evidently my posting about the FACES open modeling call upset Katt Kongo (the editor who doesn’t contribute to the blog nor compensate us for our blogging efforts).

I anticipate that the upcoming publication of FACES magazine and blog, as well as the other facets of the agency will keep me pretty busy. I have to say that I do miss writing and blogging alongside the other Angels; especially Queenie, Kitty, Tie and the always supportive Madison.

After the fallout, I kind of needed a mini SL vacation, so I dusted off an alt and here’s what I’ve been up to:

FUN WITH MY ALT
Fun with Alts
Do you realize how much fun it is to shop Neko stores??!! I have come across some of the most detailed primwork in the accessories alone. Lately I’ve just been embracing a side of fashion that I have never explored as Carissa, and I’m having a blast!
Fun with Alts

One more! *hehe*
