FashionFeedofSL.com Housekeeping…

I’ve been hacking away at the FashionFeedofSL.com again, and wanted to update on a few things.

1. I’ve FINALLY fixed the issue that’s been driving me batty with the syndication updates getting hung up and some blogspot sources taking hours to get updated. Updates will now happen every60 minutes for each blog.  YAY! (oh and no more memory timeouts)
2. I would love if the readers of FashionFeedofSL could  show their support of the site by helping with the Alexa ranking. Simply install Alexa toolbar plugin to your web browser. You can find it HERE.

A little explanation about why I’m requesting this:

Alexa is a long established service, which is now owned by Amazon. It works like by recording the web-surfing patterns of a large number of users.

The information on websites visited by the Alexa “panel” of users (who number hundreds of thousands) are recorded in a database, and the information is analysed to come up with data about popularity of websites.

As you might expect, the group of people who have installed the Alexa toolbar is biased towards technology people who run websites.

I use the Alexa toolbar myself as it helps me weed out quality sites from the junk when I’m google searching just about anything. I’ve worked very hard to make FashionFeedofSL the best it can be, and I would love to see the ranking reflect that. Totally up to you, but I thought I might ask!

One last issue that isn’t really optional. When a blogger requests a syndication review, the agreement is that a reciprocal link to the FashionFeedofSL.com be added to their blogroll. I’ve overlooked this quite a bit when reviewing and adding blogs (usually reminding the requester add the linkback when I notify that they’ve been syndicated).

Today I ran the list of syndicated sites through a reciprocal link checker and was pretty disappointed to find that over 100 blogs were missing a linkback on their site… I’m publishing the list and giving a week to add FashionFeedofSL.com to their blogroll. At that time, I may contact individuals with a little nudge and give it another week.

After that I will be removing blogs with no link back from syndication. I hate for it to come to that, but I feel it’s a small request in light of the amount of work that goes into maintaining the feed syndications.

EDIT: To clarify, this is the list of syndicated blogs that DO NOT have a link back. If you aren’t on the list, there is nothing for you to change. I’m also updating the list as people contact me about mistakes or after they’ve add FashionFeedofSL to their blog roll.

I was bored and started adding more features to FashionFeedofSL

I added a SLurls page and made it dynamically updating. The SLurls Directory is organized into Categories:

Clicking a Category will list the Shops and associated SLurls to TP directly in world:

To add your Store’s SLurl, click the “Add URL” option and fill out the details, feel free to include your Update Blog link in the description. The link you add MUST be a valid Second Life SLurl location or it will be deleted. Select the primary Product Category for your store. If you would like a Category added, please email feed@fashionfeedofsl.com with the Subject SLurl Category Request.

I just implemented this feature, so it’s very much still in “Beta” mode. I know it’s not sexy, but at this point it is working. I have future plans to add tags to select multiple Categories for your store. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at cari.crim@gmail.com

Get your FashionFeedofSL.com Updates on PLURK

Ok. Last post about FashionFeedofSL.com for a while…

But I just finished the last feature I wanted to add. If you plurk, you can now get updated on new posts as they appear on the Fashion Feed of SL directly on your timeline.

More Features Updates and Changes on FashionFeedofSL.com

So it’s Day 2 of the Massive Overhaul I’ve been working on to keep FashionFeedofSL.com alive. Long story short…the feed wasn’t built upon technology that could sustain the surprisingly rapid growth in syndications, popularity, and traffic the past 9 months.

I figured since I was working on it rescripting, writing plugins, optimizing databases, changing webhosts and just generally being a nerd…I’d add some FEATURES!!

• The most noticable update is an ARCHIVE area that will contain all historical posts prior to March 1, 2009. The feed archive has the same look and feel, fully searchable, but distinguishes itself from the MAIN current feed with a greyscale color pallette. Selecting “HOME” from the ARCHIVE area will return you the MAIN current feed.
• FAVORITES!! You can now have post favorites on FashionFeedofSL. Use the handy dandy “Add to Favorites” link at the bottom of any post, and then use the FAVORITES link from the main menu to manage all your favorite posts.
• Statistics for Advertisers and Sponsors. I’ve rescripted the SPONSORED BY advertisement area in the right sidebar to collect “click through” statistics, so I can now provide advertisers with actual number of users that have viewed their blog, magazine, or teleported to their location in world from FashionFeedofSL.
• The biggest change and least visible is quite a bit of fine tuning of the site overall and porting to a better hosting environment.
• Oh! and for all you Plurkers out there, keep your eyes open for FashionFeedofSL’s own plurk updates right in your timeline. I’ll be posting an invite link on the site as soon as I have all the bugs ironed out (and make the Plurk profile all pretty of course!)

Syndicating on FashionFeedofSL.com Just got EASIER!!

• Do you love SL fashion but don’t want the overhead of managing a blog?
